Designing a Sticker to Put Our National Parks Front and Center

Why We Created a Cover-Up Sticker for the 2026 National Park Pass
When the 2026 Annual National Park Pass design was released, the response from the park-loving community was loud and immediate.
You didn’t love it.
And honestly… neither did we!
I knew I immediately wanted to figure out if there was anything I could do to make the pass feel more personal, more reflective of the places it represents, and more aligned with why we all buy it in the first place.

At Dirt Roads Project, the National Parks are the heart of everything we do. They’re the reason we travel, the inspiration behind our designs, and the reason this brand exists, to give back to the places that have given us so much.
When the new pass design missed the mark for so many of you, we launched a sticker designed specifically to cover up the front of the 2026 Annual Park Pass. It’s sized to fit, still allows important information to be visible, and gives you a way to carry something that actually feels like you.
The response has been incredible. The amount of support, orders, messages, and shared photos has completely blown us away. Seriously, thank you all for standing with us on this issue!
What You Should Know Before Using It
We want to be upfront and transparent.
The Department of the Interior has sent out emails stating that placing stickers directly on your Annual Park Pass may void it. That’s their current guidance, and it’s important for everyone to be aware before deciding how to use the sticker.
If you still want to voice your opinion while keeping your pass intact, we suggest a simple workaround:
Place your park pass in a clear plastic sleeve and either apply the sticker to the sleeve instead of the card, place both the stick and card inside the sleeve.
This allows you to:
- Keep your official pass untouched
- Ensure all required details remain visible
- Still make a statement that you stand with our parks!
More Than Just a Sticker
This launch isn’t really about covering something up. It’s about community, creativity, and caring deeply about our public lands. It's a way to voice our frustration.
Seeing so many of you rally around this, support an independent brand, and share why the parks matter to you has been incredibly meaningful. Whether you’re customizing your pass or simply joining the conversation, your voice matters.
Thank you for standing with us, supporting small business, and continuing to show up for the places that deserve our respect and protection.
